What this agreement does
It confirms that the participant/account holder understands the nature of the activity, accepts its inherent sporting risks, will provide accurate medical information and agrees to follow WightTricks safety instructions. It does not remove WightTricks Academy's legal duties or statutory responsibilities.
1. Scope of this agreement
This agreement applies when the participant takes part in WightTricks Academy classes, coached training, open sessions, camps, workshops, performances, competitions, events or other activities organised or supervised by WightTricks.
Where the participant is under 18, the person accepting this agreement confirms that they are a parent, person with parental responsibility, or are otherwise authorised to accept the agreement in connection with the child's participation. Where the participant is 18 or over, the participant accepts the agreement for themselves.
2. Understanding the risks
Tricking, acrobatics and tumbling involve dynamic movements including running, jumping, landing, inversion, rotation, twisting, balancing and the use of specialist training equipment. Participants may also train skills involving speed, height, momentum and progressive technical difficulty.
The participant/account holder understands that injury can occur even where a skill is being coached appropriately and reasonable safety measures are in place. Risk cannot be completely eliminated from this type of physical activity.
Possible injuries include bruises, cuts, strains, sprains, joint injuries, fractures, dislocations and concussion. More serious head, neck, spinal or other injuries are possible, although they are less common. The participant/account holder accepts these inherent risks as part of voluntary participation in the activity.
Learning new skills and increasing difficulty are part of the WightTricks programme. Coaches will decide what progressions are appropriate, but no progression, mat, spot or piece of equipment can guarantee that a fall or injury will not occur.
3. Safety, coaching & instructions
Participants must follow coaching instructions, safety rules, class boundaries and directions about equipment use. They must not attempt skills, use equipment or enter training areas when they have been told not to do so.
WightTricks coaches may stop, modify or refuse a skill or activity where they consider it unsuitable because of safety, readiness, behaviour, fatigue, injury, equipment, environment or any other relevant factor.
The participant/account holder understands that appropriate physical contact may be used as part of coaching. This can include spotting, supporting, positioning, guiding movement, checking safe body position or providing immediate assistance to help prevent injury. Such contact will be used for legitimate coaching, safety or safeguarding purposes.
Unsafe behaviour, deliberate disregard of instructions, distracting others during skills, misuse of equipment or attempting unauthorised skills can place the participant and others at risk. WightTricks may remove a participant from an activity or session where reasonably necessary for safety.
4. Medical information & fitness to participate
The participant/account holder must provide WightTricks with accurate and current information about any medical condition, allergy, injury, medication, disability or other circumstance that could reasonably affect safe participation or emergency care.
Relevant information must be updated whenever circumstances change. Medical and emergency-contact details are collected separately through the WightTricks registration/account system and do not need to be written into this agreement.
Participants should not take part where illness, pain or injury makes participation unsafe. Participants must tell a coach about a new injury, pain, dizziness, head impact or other relevant symptom experienced before or during training.
Where reasonably necessary for safety, WightTricks may ask for appropriate medical advice or clearance before allowing a participant to begin, resume or continue particular activities. WightTricks coaches do not diagnose medical conditions.
Where a participant may need access to medication or an emergency device during training, such as an inhaler or adrenaline auto-injector, the account holder must ensure WightTricks has current information and that any necessary practical arrangements have been agreed in advance.
5. First aid & emergency action
If a participant becomes ill or is injured, WightTricks may provide appropriate first aid within staff training and competence, contact the emergency contact, call the emergency services, and take other reasonable steps needed to safeguard the participant's welfare.
Where urgent medical assistance is required, WightTricks may provide relevant medical and emergency information to attending healthcare professionals. Decisions about medical examination or treatment are made in accordance with applicable law and by the appropriate healthcare professional, participant and/or person with parental responsibility as circumstances require.
The account holder is responsible for keeping emergency-contact details current and should remain reasonably contactable while a child is attending WightTricks activities.
6. Equipment, clothing & personal responsibility
Participants must use mats, trampolines, floors, blocks, movement equipment and other training equipment only as directed and for their intended coaching purpose.
Participants should arrive in suitable training clothing and follow any WightTricks rules concerning footwear, jewellery, hair, loose items or other matters that may affect safety.
Participants and parents/guardians should tell a member of staff promptly if they notice damaged equipment, a hazard, an injury, a safeguarding concern or anything else that may affect safe participation.
7. WightTricks' responsibilities
WightTricks will take reasonable care in the organisation and delivery of its activities, including appropriate coaching, supervision, equipment management and safety procedures for the circumstances.
Nothing in this agreement excludes or restricts liability for death or personal injury caused by WightTricks Academy's negligence, or any other liability or legal right that cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted.
The purpose of this agreement is to make the inherent risks and participant responsibilities clear. It is not a statement that every injury is unavoidable, and it does not prevent a participant from exercising any legal rights they may have.
8. Digital acceptance
This agreement is designed for digital acceptance. The participant/account holder does not need to complete handwritten fields within this document. Identity, participant details, medical information and the date/time of acceptance are recorded through the WightTricks website or account system.
